Hamlet Tours: Who Runs the Grand Day Trip

Hamlet Tours, the Copenhagen company behind the Grand Day Trip: what it runs, seasons and hours, group size, prices in DKK, pickup, and how its tours book on Viator and GetYourGuide.

Updated October 2026

Hamlet Tours is a small Danish company, based in Gadstrup on Zealand, that has run tours around Copenhagen since 2012. It runs three things: the Grand Day Trip around Copenhagen, a two-hour walk through the city centre, and private tours. Every tour is in English and never takes more than 16 people. Its own site is hamlettours.com.

The Grand Day Trip

Hamlet Tours’ main product is the full day to Roskilde Cathedral, the Viking Ship Museum, Frederiksborg Castle and Kronborg, in a 16-seat minivan with air conditioning and Wi-Fi. The company calls it the only tour from Copenhagen that combines the royal castles with Roskilde; from April to September Ophelia Tours runs a similar four-sight day. The guides are Copenhagen locals; among them, its About page names a former member of the Danish Parliament, writers, a lawyer and history students.

The two-hour walk

The “Copenhagen two hour walk for beginners” starts at the H.C. Andersen statue beside City Hall at 10:00 and 13:00 and covers about 3 km of the centre: Strøget, Christiansborg, the old stock exchange, Nyhavn and Amalienborg, ending with tips for the rest of the day. It costs DKK 295 for adults and DKK 195 for under-18s, and children under 10 walk free (checked October 2026). Book it on hamlettours.com: the public walks run on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays in May and October and every day from June to September, and from November to April the walk is for private groups only. It goes past the palaces and museums rather than inside them.

Private tours

Hamlet Tours also builds private days and transfers: the Grand Day Trip for your own group (its example, 12 people in July, is DKK 13,450), a private walk, and a minibus with driver at DKK 800 an hour for at least four hours. It suggests no more than three sites on a custom day, chosen from Amalienborg, Christiansborg, Frederiksborg, a canal tour, Kronborg, Nyhavn, Rosenborg, Roskilde Cathedral and the Viking Ship Museum. Private tours are booked by email through hamlettours.com.

Booking and pickup

Hamlet Tours sells the Grand Day Trip on its own site, on Viator and on GetYourGuide; it is the same day on each. Pickup is free from hotels in inner Copenhagen, 30 to 50 minutes before the start, and the pickup time arrives by email at least 24 hours ahead; reply to confirm it. The phone line, +45 30 700 667, is answered from 7:00 to 22:30 every day, including on the morning of your tour.

Who it suits, and who it does not

The day suits a first visit with one day for the sights outside the city. It does not suit anyone who does not walk well: there is a lot of walking and steep stairs. Hamlet Tours does not run Møns Klint or Sweden; for those days, see the best day trips from Copenhagen.
