The Guide
Møns Klint from Copenhagen: The Tour, the Season, the Bus
The cliffs are a long drive south of the city and the buses on Møn are seasonal. Here is how the day works.
Møns Klint is the line of white chalk cliffs on the east coast of the island of Møn, south of Zealand. At Dronningestolen, the highest point, the cliff face drops 128 metres to the Baltic, and the beach below is strewn with fossils about 70 million years old. In July 2025 UNESCO added Møns Klint to the World Heritage List; Møn was already a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and, with Nyord, Scandinavia’s first International Dark Sky Park, both since 2017. A Møns Klint day trip from Copenhagen usually pairs the cliffs with the Forest Tower at Camp Adventure, a 45-metre lookout tower in the forest of Gisselfeld Kloster that you climb on a 650-metre spiral ramp.
The short answer
Book South Zealand Tours’ minibus day, in the calendar on this page. It leaves Colbjørnsensgade, two minutes from Copenhagen Central Station, drives about an hour to the Forest Tower for an hour and a half, stops at Queen Alexandrine’s Bridge for photos, and spends about three hours at Møns Klint with the guide before the two-hour drive back. It costs from US$107 in current promotion (usually US$214) a person on GetYourGuide, with 663 reviews (checked October 2026). The Forest Tower ticket and lunch are paid on top.
Check dates for the Møns Klint day

The Forest Tower
Camp Adventure’s tower opened on 31 March 2019. The ramp climbs at a gentle 7.5 percent, so wheelchairs and strollers can go all the way up, and the top looks out over the forest and the lakes of Gisselfeld. Tickets are DKK 200 for anyone aged 7 or over, DKK 185 if you book at least 72 hours ahead, and DKK 100 for children aged 3 to 6 (checked October 2026). From November to March the reception is open from 10:00 to 15:00, and the tower can be visited from sunrise to sunset.
At the cliffs
The tour gives you about three hours. You can walk the paths along the cliff top through the beech forest, or go down to the beach and back. The Maglevand stairs next to the GeoCenter have 497 steps, and the Graryg stairs 468. A storm in October 2023 damaged all five stairs to the beach; most have been rebuilt, and the nature agency’s map marks the ones still closed, so expect your guide to pick the route. Down on the beach is where people look for fossils in the chalk.
GeoCenter Møns Klint, the museum of the cliffs’ geology at the top of the Maglevand stairs, opens from Easter to the end of October. It is closed for the winter from 31 October 2026 to 20 March 2027; the toilets stay open from 06:00 to 22:00 all year. In season the GeoCenter costs DKK 155 for adults (checked October 2026).
A summer day with a medieval church
From May to September, Ophelia Tours runs a longer day to Møn on Mondays and Thursdays: the medieval frescoes of Fanefjord Church, lunch in the island’s town, Stege, and three hours at Møns Klint and the GeoCenter, with entry included, from US$211 (checked October 2026). It skips the Forest Tower and takes about ten and a half hours.
Without a tour
Møn is a long way by public transport. The train runs to Vordingborg, where bus 660R connects to Stege. From Stege, bus 678 goes to the GeoCenter five times a day, but only from 29 March to 31 October. Outside that season, bus 667 from Stege stops at Magleby, about 5.5 km from the cliffs on foot. With the GeoCenter closed and no bus to it from November to March, a tour or a car is the practical way to the cliffs in winter. The minibus day runs into November, but its booking calendar shows no departures from December to February, so check it before you plan a deep-winter date.
Before you go
- Footwear: the cliff top is forest path and the beach is stones and chalk. Wear shoes you can climb 500 steps in.
- Fitness: South Zealand Tours does not recommend the day for people with heart problems or for pregnant women, and it is not suited to wheelchair users at the cliffs, even though the Forest Tower ramp is.
- Weather: the cliffs face east over open sea; bring a wind layer in any month.
- Other days out: the best day trips from Copenhagen guide ranks this day against the castles and Sweden.
